Training & Events

Six summer and winter schools will be organized throughout the course of the project.

  • The first school took place in Copenhagen area, Denmark, January 27-31, 2014. It provided tools to the fellows to embark into PhD studies in Microbial Resource Management in the Urban Water Cycle context.
  • The second school took place in Ghent, Belgium, August 18-22, 2014, the title of this school was: Observational tools in the MRME paradigm: high-throughput technologies and data analysis.
  • The third school took place in Newcastle, United Kingdom, March 16-20, 2015, and gave the Fellows an insight in how to write a proposal for funding.
  • The fourth school took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 21-26, 2015. The theme for the school was "Process modelling in environmental biotechnology".
  • The fifth school wtook place in Belgium, 1-5 February, 2016, and covered "IPR, Entrepreneurships & Commercialization".
  • The sixth school took place in Portugal 5-10 June, 2016, with "Closing the urban water cycle" as the theme.


The IWA Microbial Ecology in Water Engineering & Biofilms joint specialist conference.

The conference was held in Copenhagen September 4th-7th, 2016 and the local Mermaid Fellows was part of the Local Organising Committee.
